I didn’t know that making play dough could be so easy. Searching for kids activity ideas for the long winter days ahead of us, I decided to give homemade play dough a try. I looked for a no-cook play dough recipe and this one caught my eye. One of the ingredients sounded quite intriguing: baby rice cereal.

I added food colors and mixed up the play dough. You can also use some glitter for the green play dough. I placed each roll into a clear gift bag and tied it up with holiday ribbon.

The bags are decorated to look like Santa, Christmas tree and Rudolph.

I used a sharpie to draw a Christmas tree on the green play dough bag and glued a red star on top.

Rudolf play dough

A couple of googly eyes and a red pom pom for Rudolph’s nose and brown pipe cleaners helped me decorate the brown play dough bag.
The boys could hardly wait for me to be done with the photos so they could open the bags and play. They rolled the play dough on the kitchen table and used Christmas cookie cutters. They ended up mixing all three colors together and I’m sure they’ll ask for a new batch in a few days. If you decide to go for homemade play dough, make sure you keep the play on a surface that can be easily cleaned as the play dough is a bit greasy. If you want to avoid this, you can certainly use store bough play dough.
