Kids’ Art into Christmas Decoration

Kids' Art into Christmas Decoration - at Non Toy Gifts

My kids’ art is mainly scribbles but I still feel bad when I have to throw it away. There was one time when my oldest found one of his artworks in the recycling bin, took it out, hand it to me and looking me straight in the eye, said: “Mom, we need to keep this!” So I got into the habit of keeping everything, scanning or photographing it at the end of the year to make an album out of it.

This year I wanted to try something new and turn my kids’ art into Christmas decoration.

I started with a white frame and a card stock sheet which I cut to fit inside the frame. I used a golden paint for the card stock and while I waited for the paint to dry I went through my boys’ stack of paintings to choose some that would work for the Christmas tree art. When my kids are in the mood for painting, I sometimes use finger paint paper roll as canvas and I end up with these super long paintings. One of these paintings was enough to create the Christmas decoration. Using cups and lids of different sizes I cut out 25 circles that I laid on 8 levels. The circle on the top of the tree comes from another painting as I wanted it to be of different colors than the rest. I also used a rectangular piece as trunk. I glued all the pieces to the card stock and voila!

This is a simple yet charming way of displaying your kids’ art. I have my decoration above the fireplace and I love it. You can use it as wall art or even as a holiday gift, maybe for grandparents. It doesn’t have to be circles, it can be triangles, squares or other random shapes.

Great idea! We did something similar like this for Valentine's one year, but I love it done as tree. Thanks for sharing at #made4kids!

This is a great use for your kids paintings that would otherwise make it into the recycling bin!
