Gifts for Girls: The Ultimate Outfit

Sharing is caring!

There are days when my 3-year old doesn’t agree with the outfit I put together for him and wants to make his own choices. Sometimes it’s only one item, other times it’s the entire outfit. Though I find it silly or funny (depends on the mood ) that there are mornings when he doesn’t want to leave the house unless he wears a certain pair of pants or top or his orange underwear (it’s always the orange one he prefers), I hear girls can be even more opinionated. A friend was telling me that she started taking her daughter shopping just to make sure that she would wear the clothes mom spent money on and even this strategy doesn’t seem to work all the time. Kids clothes are expensive especially as they outgrow them so fast and new ones need to be purchased every season.

The gifts for girls that I’m about to present to you take it up a notch, from chose to design your own. What little girl wouldn’t enjoy such an awesome gift? Design your own fabric or design your own clothes. Two options equally creative and ingenious!

If mommy is a sewer, then you may want to opt for the first idea:

Design your own fabric.  Spoonflower offers the option to start from a scanned painting or drawing which they will turn into a fabric of your choice. Don’t feel intimidated by the gorgeous design gallery you can browse on their website. Those are created by professional designers but Spoonflower is not only for pros, it is for anyone who wants to create an unique fabric. It’s a straightforward process: upload your image, choose a product (you can apply your design to the fabric, wallpaper, or gift wrap) and they print it for you. There is no minimum order and no fee for small quantities, extra colors, or custom designs. You actually get a 10% discount for using your own design.

Design your own clothes is for the little girl whose mommy doesn’t own a sewing machine (though this shouldn’t really be a criteria as I, for instance, have a sewing machine and love sewing but with so little free time on my hands I don’t get to create much for my boys). The Patchery allows your child the chance to design her own clothes by choosing a style and mixing and matching fabrics. Tees start at $26 and dresses at $46 and free shipping is available on every order. You can take a look at their gallery to get inspired by the work of other fellow designers.

Both services have the option of gift cards in case you’re thinking of making such a gift to a little girl, other than your own daughter.

Love the fabrics! Spoonflower is so awesome, anytime I can't find the perfect fabric for my clothing line, I look there or make it myself!

Thanks for these great ideas and sharing your link on Mom Blogs Party Week 7. I have a 2 year old daughter and just made her Easter dress this year. I am loving sewing these days.

Wow! I had never heard of Spoonflower before. What a cool thing to be able to do! I was just thinking earlier today that it would be really cool to custom make fabric for my sewing projects. I'm pinning this! Thanks for sharing!
