Kid-made Gift: Family Portrait

Sharing is caring!

My Christmas gifts for my grandma were no surprise. I made her the same gift every year. For many years. It was something she loved receiving and that I enjoyed creating. A calendar. Drawing was my passion as a kid and this calendar gave me the opportunity to make 12 drawings for a special person in my life. Besides, this was a practical gift that my grandmother used year around.

I think that kid-made gifts make grandparents’ holidays memorable and special because nothing beats a handmade gift. The family portrait I’m sharing with you today is a great gift idea especially for grandparents or other relatives who live far away. Kids as young as preschoolers will be able to create beautiful family portrait gifts. Toddlers can also pull it off though they may need a bit of help when it comes to handling scissors.

How to Make a Family Portrait

Step 1: Parents will start by drawing on the scarpbook paper a basic shape of a dress for mom, shirt and pants for dad and small shirt and pants for a little boy or small dress for a little girl. Older kids can do the drawing themselves. By drawing on the back of the paper, you’ll make it easier for kids to follow the lines when cutting the shapes out.

Step 2: Glue the shapes on canvas.

Step 3: Use a sharpie to draw the faces, arms and legs.
