Nature Inspired Kids Playroom

My 3 year old told me the other day that he loved snow.

But it’s cold when it snows, I say.

You can wear gloves, mom! 

Dah! Why didn’t I think of that? Because IT’S JUNE and I don’t want to think of winter!! No, sir! Cold winter days force my family to spend half a year indoors! There are still many beautiful summer and fall months ahead of us before another winter kicks in and I want to enjoy them as much as possible. Oh, if only I could take some of the sunny sky, green grass, colorful flowers into winter with us…

I don’t know if the same idea of reproducing summer nature in an indoor environment to survive wintertime is the one that inspired the designers I’m about to present to you  but they came up with some incredible products.

Pia Wüstenberg grew up between her two home countries Finland and Germany, choosing to move to the UK at the age of 15  to complete her school studies. Since her studies she has worked independently and on a freelance basis from her studios in East London and North Germany, travelling the world to learn from craft makers and create new work.

The Garden Rug, made from a felt-like organic material, fosters the germination of mossy green plants inside. All you have to do is water the carpet and let it grow in a beautiful flower design.

 What looks good with a moss rug? Maybe some stones? Not real ones but stone inspired cushions. It sounds better, doesn’t it?

Too colorful for you? Let’s try then some grey stones. Closer to reality.

These stone inspired cushions are among the products designed by Smarin, a French company created by four European designers. With its collections Smarin creates an unconventional and playful universe which applies well to the idea of a kids playroom.

These two products may come with special requirements (older kids for the moss rug as you don’t want small kids playing around with water inside the house and a big place for the stone inspired cushions as you’ll need several to get a beautiful design) and they may not be for the average parents ( like me ) – this is if you check out their prices – but I love the idea that there are people out there so talented as to create some amazing elements which, if put together, can create a beautiful nature inspired kids playroom. Even if it’s only in my dreams!
