Personalized kid friendly breakfast - at Non Toy Gifts

There are studies suggesting that  playing with food may help young kids become less picky eaters and there are also parents who swear by the strict French food rules that can turn any child into a good eater.

No matter the approach, we, parents of selective eaters, are driven by the same goal of helping our kids feel more comfortable with new foods and willing to try them. This can translate into hiding veggies in food, bribing with the favorite desert or encouraging children to take at least one bite. Been there, done that.

This past weekend I wanted to try something new: a personalized kid friendly breakfast. I basically came up with a fun breakfast idea served on customized plates.

Somehow my boys prefer veggies over fruits and with this breakfast I wanted to add more fruit variety into their diet. For instance my oldest doesn’t touch blueberries unless coated in sugar and neither of them likes kiwi.

I prepared two plates, each with a different design: a train and a house.

The first step was to make a sharpie design on white plates. I came across so many wonderful ideas on Pinterest and just followed one of the tutorials for a permanent marker design. I drew some tracks for the train and a fence for the house.

Next step was to make the design permanent by baking the plates at 350 F for 30 minutes. To my surprise the drawings started coming off once I placed the plates under hot water (hand washing them is recommended). After scrubbing  a bit, I was left with two plain white plates. While this may bother some, I find it quite nice as you can have new different designs with each breakfast, if you want (and have the time for it).

After doing some more research on Pinterest, I found other tutorials suggesting to either seal with acrylic spray or bake the plates at 425F for 30 minutes. I have not tried these so can’t guarantee anything. All I can say is to keep the sharpie design on the outer edge of the plates where food can’t touch it.

Because my family loves the belVita Breakfast Biscuits, I incorporated them into my breakfast ideas and combined with different fruits for a well balanced start to the day.

I used four types of belVita Breakfast Biscuits: Blueberry, Golden Oat, Bites Chocolate and Soft Baked Banana Bread and 4 types of fruits: banana (sun), strawberries (flowers and wheels), kiwi (grass) and blueberry (freight). The boys loved their breakfast and asked for more houses and trains.

Next time you’re at Target, check out the breakfast aisle and get belVita Breakfast Biscuits home to make a delicious and fun breakfast for your kids.

What breakfast would you create with the belVita Breakfast Biscuits? I’d love to hear your ideas.
