How did the heart become the symbol of love?
The heart has long been associated with love and affection, making it a fitting symbol for Valentine’s Day.
The tradition dates back to ancient times when the heart was believed to be the center of emotion, particularly love.
This association was further solidified during the Middle Ages, when the concept of courtly love became popular. During this period, poets and artists frequently depicted the heart as a representation of romantic devotion.
Its stylized shape, resembling the outline of a human heart, is easy to recognize and has been widely adopted in art, literature, and popular culture as a universal emblem of love.
Valentine’s Day, celebrated on February 14th, honors St. Valentine and has become a day dedicated to expressing love and affection, making the heart an enduring and iconic symbol for this special occasion.

How can my kid help making the decoration?
If you have young kids, they can help paint the two paper plates.
Older kids can hot glue or staple the paper plates together or hot glue the heart plastic gems onto the wooden pot. They can also add the heart doily in the middle of the paper plates.
What can I replace the heart doily with?
If you can’t find a heart doily at your local craft store around Valentine’s Day, you can show your kids how to make a heart from red or pink construction paper.
What can I use if I don’t have a wooden pot?
You can use a terracotta flower pot or even a big paper cup. Paint it or use it as is.
What do I replace the moss with?
I love using moss for our crafts and you can find it most likely at your local dollar store. Otherwise, you can use green Easter paper grass or crumbled green tissue paper.
