We wanted to create some fun DIY fall crafts for kids to make in September and October in the classroom or at home. So we made these easy fall paper hats.
While the paper crowns are specifically created as fall activities for kids, some of them can be used for other occasions, too.
Take the pumpkin and corn paper hats, for instance. They can be used for Thanksgiving. The apple paper hat can be paired with a visit to an apple orchard. The owl and hedgehog headbands make great woodland or autumn animal crafts for kids.

Fun facts about hedgehogs
Here are some fun facts about hedgehogs to pair with hedgehog fall activities for kids:
- Hedgehogs are solitary animals and prefer to live their lives alone.
- In colder climates, hedgehogs hibernate from November to March so they can save energy when food isn’t so easy to find.
- The reason they like to curl up into a ball is to protect themselves from predators that may attack them.
- Hedgehogs sleep during the day and they hunt and explore at night.

- White cardstock paper
- Colored pencils – my favorites
- Scissors
- Tape
How to make a hedgehog paper crown
Print the headband on white paper.
Color the front piece (if using the black and white version) and cut it out.
Tape two side panels to the front piece.
Bend the headband into a circle. Wrap it around the kid’s head to check for fit. Tape the ends together.
