What is the Muñeca Lele?
The Muñeca Lele is a traditional, handcrafted doll originating from Mexico. “Lele” means “baby”.
These dolls are typically handmade by artisans using vibrant ribbons, embroidered dresses, and smiling faces.
Over the years, the Muñeca Lele has grown in popularity, becoming a cultural ambassador of Mexico.
In fact, giant Lele dolls have traveled to countries around the world, symbolizing Mexico’s rich traditions and the importance of preserving Indigenous art.
For children, learning about the Muñeca Lele is a fun way to explore the meaning behind the bright colors, traditional dress, and cultural history of Mexico.
Why Make a Rocking Doll Craft?
Turning the Muñeca Lele into a rocking craft adds a playful and interactive twist that kids love. Instead of just coloring a flat picture, children get to assemble a moving doll that rocks back and forth, which makes the activity feel more like a toy.

How to make the Muñeca Lele doll rocking craft
Print out the Muñeca Lele craft printable. Color the patterns (head, arms and dress) and cut them out.
Fold the colored circle in half along the straight line so that it forms a semi-circle. This will be the rocking skirt of the doll.
Glue one arm on each side of the folded semi-circle, near the top edges. Angle them slightly upward to look like the doll is waving or dancing.
Glue the doll’s head to the top center of the folded semi-circle, just above the arms.
