Paper plate crafts are among our favorites. Nothing beats an easy craft that uses supplies you find in every household.

We try to put our own spin on Halloween paper plate crafts. Our paper plate vampire needs a haircut and our paper plate witch has beads in her hair.

Yarn and paper plate is a combination we love and use as much as possible. And we did it again for this paper plate Frankenstein. Its hair is not made with paint or construction paper. But instead it’s yarn.

Crafting with yarn helps kids practice their fine motor skills. They will work with a plastic yarn needle and thread yarn through holes in the paper plate. This makes a great first sewing project for preschoolers and kindergartners.

Frankenstein paper plate variations:

  • Use googly eyes instead of making your own eyes from paper.
  • Use glow in the dark googly eyes for a spooky look
  • Start with a green paper plate. This way you can skip the painting step

How to make a paper plate Frankenstein

Start by painting a paper plate green. You can use a green paper plate instead and skip the painting part.

green paper plate

When the paint has dried completely, cut off the top of the paper plate.

draw hair

Use a pencil to draw Frankenstein’s hair at the top of the paper plate and cut it out.

holes

Use a hole punch to make holes along the “hair area”.

yarn hair

Cut a strand of  black yarn, thread it through a plastic yarn needle and tie one end to the needle. Tape the other end of the yarn at the back of the paper plate. You can now start threading the yarn through the holes in the paper plate.

Go through all the holes one or more times.

When you reach the end of the yarn, secure it to the back of the paper plate with tape. If you’re not done threading, cut another strand of yarn and keep on going till you cover all the holes.

eyes

Cut out two eyes from white paper and draw the pupils black. Glue the eyes onto the paper plate.

Frankenstein

Use a black marker to draw the mouth and scars. Make the eyebrows from either black paper or draw them with the black marker.

Cut out two bolts from black paper and glue them to the back of the paper plate, one on each side.
