An easy pom pom bird craft to make with your preschoolers or older kids as a spring activity. Pom poms and cotton balls are exciting craft materials to use and kids love them both.

If you’re looking for more spring ideas, here are bunny, bee, ladybug and rainbow crafts you can explore.

Pom pom bird craft for kids

My youngest is such an energetic little guy and has to like something very much to be able to calm his body down and channel his energy towards doing a specific task. Otherwise, if he’s not particularly interested in what he has to do, he’ll do it quickly so he can move over to the next thing.

I didn’t expect him to have the patience to sit down and make pom poms. But he has and I love seeing his enthusiasm. He moved quickly from making one color pom poms to rainbow pom poms. He even wants to open a business and sell his pom poms. 🙂

It’s just that for the moment he can only focus on making the pom poms and once we’re out of quarantine he’ll be able to move on to the marketing part and see if he can turn his passion into a kid business.

Do you encourage your kids to become entrepreneurs? I tried with my oldest too, but he wasn’t much interested. His brother, on the other hand, seems more open to the idea.

Anyway, because of his new interest, I was reminded of an old pom pom bird craft we made a while back and didn’t get a chance to share with you. Also, seeing him make all these pom poms I have so many pom pom craft ideas that I would like to explore. I’m not sure if he’s willing to give away some of the yarn, though.

Supplies:

How to make a pom pom bird craft

Start by gluing cotton balls onto a paper bowl. If you don’t have cotton balls, you can replace them with white pom poms. You will need to use hot glue for this step and depending on your kid’s age, it’s up to you to decide if she/he can handle a hot glue gun or you will have to do this step.

You can also use a low temp glue gun for kids. Adult supervision is still required.

Once the cotton balls are glued onto the paper bowl, you can paint them brown.

While the paint is drying out completely, you can make your light blue pom poms.

We’re using these pom pom makers and they are excellent.A set comes with four different size makers and they are really easy to use. You just have to look for the instructions on YouTube.

Once you have your pom poms, use the hot glue gun again to glue the googly eyes and the beak onto the pom poms.

We made a bigger pom pom for the mama bird and a smaller one for the baby bird.
