Sharing is caring!

This roll a Jack-O-Lantern game is the perfect last minute Halloween idea for kids. It is simple to prep and easy to play. And because we love coming up with craft ideas (check out our collection of 200+ easy crafts for kids) our game isn’t just a game. It’s also a Jack-O-Lantern craft.

As a room parent I’m in charge of organizing the Halloween party for my son’s class. So I started looking for simple Halloween party games and activities that would be easy to prep, play and that wouldn’t go above the very limited budget we have.

Being the crafter that I am, I wanted one of the activities to be a craft. The easy way would have been to chose one of the ideas in our Halloween craft collection. But as I like to come up with new ideas, I took it upon me to create a new craft.

Build a Jack O Lantern game and craft

This Halloween game is perfect to be played in small groups. By the end of the game, each student will have their own Jack-O-Lantern craft.

Roll a Jack-O-Lantern game rules:

Each child gets a building board. They take turns rolling a die and collecting all the pieces they need to build their Jack-O-Lanterns. Depending on the number they rolled, they can pick a pumpkin, eyes, nose, mouth, stem or another piece of their choice. Once they have the pumpkin, they can start gluing the rest of the pieces onto the pumpkin. The first player who builds the complete Jack-O-Lantern wins!

Kids get to chose between two pumpkin shapes, four eye shapes, four nose shapes, six mouth shapes and two stem shapes. Each student will get the chance to give their own touch to their craft. In the end the Jack-O-Lanterns won’t look the same.

They will be great to decorate the classroom or the hallway with.

Build a Jack-O-Lantern game

I created a simple template for this game. The room parent or the teacher who is in charge of organizing the game, has to print the patterns on corresponding colored paper, cut them out and place them all in the middle of the playing area.

Each student will receive a building board and needs glue to finish the craft. A 6 sided die is also needed for the game.

If you plan on playing this game at home with your child or grandchild, please know that the template also includes a home version. The pumpkins are to be printed directly on orange paper but the rest of the patterns (eyes, nose, mouth and stem) need to be traced on colored paper and then cut out.
