A seahorse craft is a great summer craft for the end of the school year or an ocean / sea life unit study. If you’re looking for under the sea and ocean animal ideas or just an easy craft to make with preschoolers, kindergartners and older kids, this seahorse fits the bill.
I wanted to have the seahorse showing up in its natural habitat, so I created it swimming among the waves and seaweeds at the bottom of the ocean.
We have created this paper plate ocean craft a while back and it includes four ocean animals: whale, seahorse, fish and star fish. This summer I plan on making individual crafts for several sea animals: jellyfish, whale and more.
- Seahorse template
- Cardstock paper: light blue, yellow, orange, white and green
- Dark blue cardstock paper for the background
How to make a seahorse craft
The seahorse template comes with two versions:
1. home template – cut out the patterns and trace them on corresponding colored paper.
2. classroom template – print the pattern directly on colored paper and cut them out.
This way you can easily craft with just one or two kids as well as with a classroom full of students.
Step by step instructions
Glue four waves onto the blue cardstock paper background. Make sure to spread them evenly.
Glue the seahorse in the middle of the paper.
Add on the details: eye, dorsal fin, coronet and keel.
Glue the 5 seaweed plants at the bottom of the paper.
