2025 is the Year of the Snake, so here we are with a fun Chinese New Year spiral snake craft for kids to make in the classroom or at home. It’s the classic swirly paper snake craft, but we put a spin on it by adding yarn to the mix.
The combination of scissors cutting the snake and threading yarn through the holes along the snake’s body, as well as plastic beads, makes this Chinese New Year craft not only a fun and engaging activity for kids to celebrate the Lunar New Year but also a way for kids to work on their fine motor skills.
The snake craft comes with a free printable template you can have by entering your email at the end of this article.
The template comes with marked segments along the snake’s body, making it easier for kids to see where to start and finish with one color. I went for a striped look to combine several traditional colors, such as red, orange, and yellow.
The template comes with a second option, where the body isn’t segmented for kids to color the snake any other way they would like to.
The snake has cartoonish eyes and a small red tongue sticking out.
Once cut out, the body of the snake will be coiled in a spiral, with red yarn threaded through holes in the paper for a more festive look.
