In 2025 we will enter the Year of the Snake and better way to celebrate it with kids than with a fun and engaging Lunar New Year craft. I created a coloring Chinese New Year snake agamograph for kids of all ages.
What is an agamograph?
Agamograph is an intriguing art form that combines two images into one, revealing them when viewed from different angles. In our case one of the image is a snake and on the other side you can read the words “Chinese New Year”.
Agamographs are named after the Israeli artist Yaacov Agam, who is credited with their creation.
His innovative agamographs cleverly combine multiple images into a single piece of art that changes based on the viewer’s angle. Agam’s work has left a lasting impact on the art world and made its way into crafting, too.
The snake in the Chinese mythology
In Chinese culture, the snake is a symbol of wisdom, intuition, and transformation. Associated with the sixth sign in the Chinese Zodiac, the Snake is often regarded as a creature of mystery and deep thinking.
People born in the Year of the Snake are believed to be intelligent, graceful, and cunning, possessing a keen ability to navigate complex situations.
In ancient Chinese mythology, the Snake is associated with Fuxi, one of the earliest leaders. Fuxi is often illustrated with a human head and a snake’s body, representing the harmonious union of heaven and earth.
