Tissue Paper Patriotic Flower Wreath

Sharing is caring!

Fourth of July crafts are among our favorite crafts. We make patriotic t-shirts for the kids to wear at the parade, decorate our house and create many other easy 4th of July crafts. Today we’re sharing a tissue paper patriotic flower wreath.

This beautiful red white and blue flower makes a great DIY patriotic decoration that parents can make together with their kids. Little ones can help with everything, from cutting the petals, to gluing them onto the paper plate.

It’s only the last step of gluing the pistil that requires close adult supervision as it involves handling a hot glue gun. Preschoolers and kindergartners can nevertheless use a low temp glue gun.

I’m so happy with the way it turned out that I want to keep it on our door all year long.

It’s beautiful, bright and happy looking. The perfect 4th of July DIY wreath!

The best part is that it only takes a few sheets of tissue paper, a paper plate and glue. That’s all.

How to make a tissue paper patriotic flower wreath

Step 1: Draw a petal shape on paper and cut it out. Our petals are 10 inches tall and about 6 inches wide.

Use the stencil you created to cut out petals from tissue paper. We used four red tissue paper sheets, four white tissue paper sheets and one blue tissue paper to make 16 red petals, 16 white petals and 4 blue petals. The wreath has two layers of petals so we used 8 red petals, 8 white petals and 2 blue petals for each layer.

Step 2: Apply glue at the base of a petal and bring it all together. Glue it to the paper plate. Alternate two red petals with two white petals and finish with two blue petals.

Step 3: Glue the second layer of petals closer to the middle of the paper plate.

Step 4: Stack all the remaining red, white and blue tissue paper sheets together and cut them into a long strip. Cut fringes on one side of the strip and roll it all up. Apply glue to the bottom and place it in the middle of the paper plate. I used hot glue for this step to make sure that the middle will stick together.
