I took out my homemade play dough recipe one morning so the kids could play with their play dough snowman kit. While I was making the play dough they asked me to add some color and I did. One thing led to another and our winter activity turned into a Valentine’s activity. The boys made play dough hearts and decorated them with beads.

This proved to be such a fun craft for my preschoolers that I thought of turning it into play dough Valentines. You can’t go wrong with play dough, beads and cookie cutters, right? They are perfect for a classroom Valentine’s party especially if you’re looking for non-candy treat ideas.
Play Dough Valentines
- Play dough
1.5 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons oil
1 cup of boiling water
- Beads: red, white and pink
- Heart shaped cookie cutters
- Cellophane gift bags
Step 1: Make the play dough. (Head over to How Wee Learn for the play dough recipe.)
Step 2: Shape the play dough into balls and decorate each ball with hearts made with beads.
Step 3: Place the play dough balls into cellophane bags.
Step 4: Tie the bags with white yarn and don’t forget to slide in a heart shaped cookie cutter.
