Looking for an easy summer craft for kids? This coloring camping spinner craft features a tent and camper, while also helping children explore the day and night concepts.

Camping is a fun summer activity that provides families with opportunity to spend time together and create memories that will last a lifetime.

I grew up camping with my parents and wanted to do the same with my kids. We started when they were young and we go camping every singe summer at least one time.

We don’t electronics with us, instead we take our bikes and games, books and hammocks.

I remember when the boys were little and my husband was stressed out having them help with making a fire. These days, my youngest is able to start a fire on his own and he’s so very proud of it.

Because camping is one of my favorite summer activities, I created this fun camping spinner craft for preschoolers ands older kids.

It features a tent on one half and a camper on the other half.

This craft can be used also as an interactive day and night science activity as the tent is shown during the day and the camper during the night.

The craft comes with a simple printable template that kids will color and attach together.

Benefits of Camping

Camping allows us to escape the everyday stressful life, escape into nature and connect with it.

Take a break from electronics and instead spend time with your family playing games, singing and talking together.

Use this opportunity to go hiking, canoeing, fishing or swimming if camping close to a lake.

Have kids help you set up the tent, build a fire or cook so you can work together and solve all problems that may occur in the process.

Create family memories that will last a lifetime.

Day and Night Concepts

Day and night occur because the Earth rotates on its axis once every 24 hours, causing the side of the Earth facing the sun to experience daytime and the side facing away to experience nighttime.

This repeating pattern is called the alternation of day and night.

At any given moment, half of the Earth is experiencing daytime and the other half is experiencing nighttime.

Fun Facts About Day and Night

  • The Earth rotates on its axis at a speed of 1,600 km/h.
  • The shortest day of the year is called the winter solstice.
  • If you were looking down on Earth from above the north pole, you would see the Earth rotating counterclockwise.
  • The Earth’s rotation is gradually slowing down, which means days are getting longer. On average, a day gets about 1.8 seconds longer every century.
  • The moon is visible at night because the sun’s light makes it visible.
