Our Canada Day printable features a beaver carrying the Canadian flag with fireworks and stars in the background. The words Canada Day are at the bottom of the decoration.
Did you know Canada’s national animal is the beaver?
The beaver was officially declared Canada’s national animal in 1975 because of its historical significance and contribution to the country’s growth. Beavers played a huge role in Canada’s early economy. Their fur was highly valued in the fur trade, which helped shape the country’s development.
Fun facts about beavers
Beavers have large front teeth that never stop growing! They chew on wood to keep them sharp and short.
Beavers create dams using logs, mud, and stones to form ponds that provide homes for other animals.
They can hold their breath for up to 15 minutes while swimming underwater.
What materials do I need for this craft?
The craft only requires a few supplies: paper, colored pencils, yarn and crepe paper streamers. I used 60lb cardstock paper because I wanted the decoration to be sturdy. Regular printing paper will work, too.
However, if you plan on hanging the decoration outside, in your yard, I would recommend cardstock paper, to make the decor last longer.
Does the craft come with a printable?
Yes, you can purchase the Canada Day craft printable, print it out, and have the kids color it. The product contains instructions, step-by-step photos, and a template.
Can I make the craft in the classroom?
Yes, this Canada Day decoration craft can be made in the classroom. It could be a great bulletin board idea or a school hallway decor. It is easy to make with preschoolers, kindergartners, and elementary school-aged kids.
