When I buy craft supplies I don’t always have a clear idea in mind what I want to use them for. I may be in a yarn craft phase and if I see some cute yarn, I will grab it. Or I would add more pattern paper to my collection because, as a crafter, you can’t have enough beautiful paper.
If I take a visit to my local craft store during the holidays I will certainly add more materials to my Christmas craft supplies. I can’t resist them. This was the case with the silver pipe cleaners.
I had no idea what I would use them for, but I had to have them. I bought several holiday pipe cleaners: silver, gold, candy cane striped and also some that looked like Christmas tree branches. So, make sure to check back later for more pipe cleaner Christmas crafts for kids.

Otherwise you can use colored paper plates. White paper plates will also look nice because the trees are colorful but the snow at the bottom won’t pop up so much as with a colored plate.
Great for preschoolers and kindergartners to help with fine motor skills, the Christmas tree craft can be used in the classroom, if you are a teacher looking for Christmas arts and crafts, or at home, while crafting with mom or grandma.

Step-by-step instructions
Start by painting a paper plate any color of your choice and set it aside to dry completely.
In the meantime, download the free printable template, cut out the patterns. Trace the star and tree trunk on construction paper and cut them out.
Trace the triangle in the middle of the paper plate and cut out.
Use a hole punch to make holes along the sides of the triangle. Make sure you have the same number of holes on each side. So, if your kid makes 6 holes on the right side of the tree, they will need to make 6 on the left side, too.
Turn the paper plate upside down and slide a pipe cleaner through one of the holes. Thread plastic beads through the pipe cleaner and then slide the pipe cleaner through the corresponding hole on the other side of the triangle.
Repeat until you have covered all the holes.
Use hot glue to glue the pipe cleaners in place at the back of the paper plate and trim the ends of the pipe cleaners, if necessary.
Once you are done with the pipe cleaners, glue the star at the top of the Christmas tree and the trunk at the bottom.
Add glue at the bottom of the paper plate. Unroll and tear your cotton ball and press down the pieces onto the paper plate.
