As Ash Wednesday approaches, and you are looking for ways to make the Lenten season more meaningful and engaging for your kids, I have created a Lent decoration craft for little ones to color and create at church or home.
To help kids better understand the significance and essence of Lent, the craft printable has words and symbols for kids to color and reflect upon.
The word LENT is at the bottom of the decoration.
Lent is a special time in the Christian calendar that lasts for about six weeks. It begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. During Lent, Christians prepare for Easter by reflecting on Jesus Christ’s life, his teachings, and his sacrifices. It’s a time for thinking about how we can be better people and grow closer to God.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. On this day, people go to church and, after Mass, receive ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross. This reminds them to be humble and to think about how they can improve their lives.
Pray Fast Give Lent is a time to pray more and to think about how we can help others. This might include doing kind things for friends, family, or even strangers. Many people give up something they like, such as sweets or video games, as a way to show self-discipline and to remember the sacrifices Jesus made.
40 days Lent lasts for 40 days because it reminds Christians of the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert, praying, fasting, and preparing for his mission. The 40 days begin on Ash Wednesday and end on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. Sundays are not counted because each Sunday is considered a mini-celebration of Easter.
Purple During Lent, you might notice that churches and decorations often use the color purple. This color has special meaning during this time.
Purple is a color often associated with kings and queens. It reminds us that Jesus is a king and is respected and honored by Christians.
Purple also represents penitence, which means feeling sorry for the mistakes we’ve made and wanting to improve.
The fish is a special symbol for Christians, especially during Lent. Many Christians fast or give up certain foods, like meat. Instead of eating meat, they often eat fish.
The palm is an important symbol during Lent, especially on a special day called Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter. On this day, Christians remember when Jesus entered Jerusalem and was welcomed by the people. They waved palm branches and laid them on the ground to honor him, much like a royal parade. This event is known as the “Triumphal Entry.”
