We’re on a roll with our Grinch crafts. We’ve created a paper Grinch and a paper plate Grinch’s heart so far. Today, we’re adding a handprint Grinch card to our Christmas craft collection.
It’s easy, fun and it needs no prep work. If making handmade cards with your kids is on your list this year, then this simple Grinch idea will come to the rescue.
All you need is green and red paper. In just a few steps you’ll be ready creating a fun Grinch card that your little ones will love. You can pair the craft with the book or the movie.
How the Grinch stole Christmas!
Did you know that dr. Seuss claimed he was the inspiration for his character? He wrote the Grinch after he had recently finished The Cat In The Hat and it only took him a few weeks to write it.
The book has been translated into nine languages and has been adapted into musicals and two movies.
Handmade Christmas cards for teachers
The Grinch is one of the teachers’ favorite Christmas books to read in the classroom. Another reason to make one handprint Grinch card for your kid’s teacher.
When coming up with gift ideas for my kids’ teachers, I try to include a handmade card that the boys can help making.
A couple of years ago we made a reindeer card and last year we went with this triangle Christmas tree card.
I know that the cards have to be simple for my kids not to lose their patience and interest especially as they need to make more than one. So I’ll let them make one card from scratch but for the rest I’ll cut the patterns myself and they will have to assemble the cards together.
We love simple crafts for kids (check out our collection of easy crafts for kids) and this Grinch is perfect for kids as young as preschoolers.

How to make this Christmas handprint card
Find the printable instructions at the end of the post.
If you plan on making this as a Christmas card you may want to use green card stock paper to make it sturdy. But if you’re not planning on turning it into a card, then green construction paper will do the job just great.
Depending on the kids’ age, you can let them cut out the handprint and heart themselves or you can do the cutting and they can be in charge of gluing and assembling the craft. Cutting out a handprint especially when the fingers are spread out, may be challenging for some young kids. My oldest used to get frustrated when he wasn’t able to cut on the line exactly while my youngest doesn’t care much about precision.
Step by step instructions
Fold the green paper in half and place your child’s right hand close to the folded line.
Trace the handprint and cut it out.
Download the template (find it at the end of the article) and cut out four hearts.
Fold all the heart shapes in half. Apply glue to one of the folded halves of one heart. Attach another folded heart onto the first and align them together. Do the same with the rest of the hearts till all four hearts are attached.
Apply glue to the two ends and stick inside the handprint card.
