This Lent agamograph craft is such a fun coloring activity for kids to celebrate the beginning of the Lent season at home or for Sunday School.
What is Lent?
Here are some ways you can explain Lent to kids.
Length of Lent: Lent lasts for 40 days. Imagine a long countdown where you mark each day on a calendar!
Purpose: During Lent, people take extra time to think about their lives and how they can be kinder, more helpful, and more loving. It’s a time to grow closer to God and be the best version of ourselves.
Giving Up or Adding Something: Many people choose to give up something they like for Lent, like sweets or video games. This helps them remember what’s truly important. Others might choose to add something positive, like doing a kind act every day.
Special Days:
- Ash Wednesday: The first day of Lent. Some people go to church and get a little bit of ash placed on their forehead as a reminder to be humble and reflect on their actions.
- Holy Week: The last week of Lent, which includes important days like Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and finally, Easter Sunday!
Reflection and Prayer: Lent is also a time for people to pray and think about their actions, how they can improve, and how they can help others.
What is an agamograph?
An agamograph is a cool type of art that changes when you look at it from different angles. It’s named after the artist Yaacov Agam, who invented this creative way of showing images.
An agamograph is made of two pictures on a piece of paper. When you look at the paper from one side, you see the first picture, and when you look at it from the other side, you see the second picture.
Kids can create their own agamograph with some paper, markers, and scissors. First, they will have to draw two pictures. Then, cut each picture into strips and glue them onto another piece of paper in an alternating pattern (one strip from the first picture, then one from the second). Finally, they will fold it into an accordion shape.
