When my mom married my dad she was an inexperienced cook. …Well, to be honest she didn’t know how to cook at all and this is uncommon for a Romanian woman. Luckily for her, my father knew his way around a kitchen and guided her through the first cooking steps. She soon took over the kitchen but there were still some dishes left for my dad to master on his own. Take baked apples, for instance. Every fall my dad was in charge of this delicious dessert that I could hardly wait to try. He mastered the recipe to perfection and it was a treat I was always looking forward to.
Sometimes when I see, pick or craft apples, I become nostalgic about my dad’s baked apples. Too bad my parents live an ocean away from us and I can’t taste them anymore.
