Mandala Crafting with Newspapers

I’ve discovered a lovely way to combine the beauty of mandalas with eco-friendly crafting.

By repurposing newspapers and pairing them with paper plates, I created a beautiful mandala art that’s not just visually captivating but also kind to our planet.

The idea takes the circular form of a traditional mandala—a symbol rich in meaning and often used for meditation—and gives it a fresh twist by incorporating recycled materials.

This approach is not only practical, but it also imparts a deeper message about transformation, as we turn everyday items into something sacred and stunning.

I think it’s a delightful way to honor the spirit of mandalas while celebrating the art of recycling.

Paper Plate Crafts for Kids

Paper plates are a great choice for crafting with the kids.

Their affordability means you can stock up without breaking the bank, which is perfect for those spontaneous bursts of creativity.

They are sturdy materials, resisting tears and bends, so young artists can handle them with ease, whether painting, gluing, or cutting.

What’s more, their simple, round shape offers a blank canvas that lets kids’ imaginations run wild.

These everyday items, found in most households, transform into vibrant canvases, animal masks, or even flying saucers with just a few supplies and a sprinkle of creativity.

Why Craft With Newspapers?

I love the idea of breathing new life into everyday items, and that’s exactly what happens when you incorporate newspapers into your crafts.

Not only do you give these often overlooked pages a second chance to shine, but you also support recycling efforts in the most creative way.

By choosing to craft with newspaper, you make an eco-friendly decision that reduces waste and promotes sustainability.

Plus, it’s a fantastic conversation starter with kids bout the importance of repurposing our resources.

What Are Mandalas?

Mandalas are intricate geometric designs, often circular, symbolizing the universe and its infinite nature.

They serve as tools for meditation, focusing the mind, and as spiritual guidance.

In various traditions, mandalas are crafted as a method of relaxation and inner healing.

Historically, they are used in Hinduism and Buddhism for spiritual purposes, but today, anyone can enjoy the benefits of making a mandala.

They help to steady the mind and are believed to bring about a sense of tranquility and completeness.

materials

Use a combination of images and word pieces of newspaper to create your mandala.

When you create a pattern with colored pieces make sure you keep the symmetry of the colors you use. You either want to search all pages for the a certain color you would like to use, or find a big image that has one predominant color.

I started my mandala with the rim and moving towards the middle of the paper plate.
