Thing 1 and Thing 2 Windsocks

Sharing is caring!

If your kids love the book The Cat in the Hat, make these Thing 1 and Thing 2 windsocks to celebrate the upcoming Dr Seuss Day. They make a nice craft to go along with the book. Besides, they are so much fun to decorate your house or yard with.

Inspired by the heart windsocks we made for Valentine’s Day, we have decided to create these new windsocks to go along with one of our favorite books.

Thing 1 and Thing 2 windsocks - a book activity to go along with The Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss

If you’re looking for more Dr Seuss ideas, you may want to take a look at our Lorax windsocks as well as our entire Dr Seuss craft collection. You will find Cat in the Hat, Lorax and Sam I Am.

We used tin cans for our windsocks but feel free to replace them with paper rolls. Paper roll windsocks are more kid friendly crafts and they look equally great.

How to make Thing 1 and Thing 2 windsocks:

These are the craft materials that we used but you can replace the crepe streamers with ribbons or the hot glue with Elmer’s glue. (You just need to wait until the glue dries before using your windsocks).

Step 1: Remove the bottom of the tin cans as well as the labels.

Step 2: Paint the tin cans red. We applied two layers of paint on each can.

Step 3: Glue Thing 1 sign on one can and Thing 2 sign on the other can. We found the signs online bu googling “Thing 1 and Thing 2 signs”

Step 4: Cut 8 pieces of the crepe streamer of the same length for each can. Glue them at the bottom of the tin can, on the inside.
Cut a 12 – 14 inch length of fishing line and glue it to the top of the tin can. Repeat for the second can.
