A beautiful Christmas handmade gift for music teachers that kids can easily make.
If your kid takes piano or violin or any other instrument lessons and you’re looking for kid-made gift ideas for the teacher, this fingerprint mug is a great DIY present.
It only requires a few supplies and it takes just a few minutes to make it.
The year my kids created this fingerprint Christmas plate for our babysitter, my oldest also made this fingerprint Christmas mug for his piano teacher. I prepared the mug and traced the lines. All he did was to press his fingerprints on the mug. Easy and ready in no time.
I personally love handmade gifts and if grandparents were living closer to us and not an ocean away, I think they would be flooded with DIY presents for their birthdays and the holidays. Instead we do handmade gifts for just our small family and it’s fun to see the ideas my kids come up with when it’s my birthday.
We also love handmade cards (like this handprint Grinch card or this reindeer card) and make them for teachers.
Ok, to come back to our handmade Christmas gift for music teachers, weather they are coffee or tea drinkers, they would love to start their day with this cute fingerprint mug.
Coffee vs. tea
Depending where you live, people show a preference for either coffee or tea.
According to this chart, coffee is the preferred drink in North America, Latin America and Europe while people chose to start their day with tea in Asia and former Soviet Union.

Supplies:
- white mug
- red porcelain paint
- green porcelain paint
- black porcelain pen
- pencil
- paintbrush or sponge brush (optional)
These are the exact materials we used to make our mug.
How to make a fingerprint Christmas mug for music teachers
Start by drawing the staff and treble clef with a pencil onto the mug.
Use the black porcelain pen to trace the staff and treble clef.
Have your child dip their pointer in one color or you can apply paint on their finger with a paintbrush or sponge brush.
Help them push their colored finger onto the mug to create the notes. This way you will be in control. Otherwise you may end up with fingerprints all over the mug.
(TIP: The kid can dip the pointer from one hand in red and the pointer from the other hand in green paint. This way they can easily alternate the two colors.)
Once the paint has dried out completely, add the lines for the notes. You can also add the year on the mug handle.
Have your kid write down their name on the mug.
24 hours after your have finished your painting you can bake the mug in the oven according to the instructions on the porcelain paint bottle. This step will ensure that your mug is dishwasher safe.
