Celebrate the winter season with a festive paper cup penguin windsocks craft for kids.
This is such an easy and fun craft to make with toddlers, preschoolers or older kids. They will love watching their penguin twirl in the wind. A beautiful way to decorate your yard during these cold winter months.
We have made penguin windsocks before using paper rolls.
We have actually made quite a few windsocks throughout the years. They look so nice outside hung in trees.
Types of windsocks
While windsocks are meteorological instruments used to tell wind speed and direction of wind, they also make beautiful decorations that kids can easily create.
Here are three types of DIY windsocks depending on the materials you use:
Tin can windsocks
Recycle tin cans into anything you can think of, from hearts for Valentine’s Day to Thing 1 and Thing 2.
Paper roll windsocks
Let’s look again in the recycling bin, this time for a more kid-friendly material: paper rolls. Make windsocks for every season and holiday, from penguins to Lorax.
Paper cup windsocks
When using paper cups, you can start with colored cups and skip the painting step – this is awesome if you’re looking for a quick craft idea for kids. Make bee windsocks or Earth windsocks.

Tie the yarn ends together with a big knot . (TIP Make sure the knot is larger than the hole)
Download the penguin template (find it at the end of the post), and cut out the patterns.
Glue the belly at the bottom of the paper cup.
Glue the feet onto the cup, one on each side of the belly.
Add the googly eyes above the belly.
Glue the beak under the eyes.
Cut 8 pieces of the crepe streamer of the same length. We used two colors: white and black. Four of them are white and the other four black. Glue the streamers at the bottom of the paper cup, on the inside. We glued first the white streamers, followed by the black ones.
